The demand for cybersecurity professionals is rising globally, as cyberattacks are increasing in scale

and severity.  Despite the surge in job opportunities and high wages, according to the Aspen Digital Tech Policy hub’s latest report, underrepresented groups such as Black (9%) and Hispanic (4%) make up an increasingly low percentage of the industry.

A 2019 Deloitte survey revealed that only 9% of millennials stated that they were interested in

pursuing a cybersecurity career at some point in their lives. This was attributed to a lack of

awareness of the options in the cybersecurity field and limited access to cybersecurity curricula.

StartCyber is a 20-45 hour externship experience for high school students focused on careers in cybersecurity.  Our unique career exploration program provides an overview of the various occupations within the field, offers hands-on learning experiences using real-world tools and techniques, and assists with connecting students’ interests to potential career pathways in

the industry.
